Frequently Asked Technical Questions
What do I need in order to view an application demo in a webcast?
  • To view an application demo video (as part of a webcast), you will need to use a browser that supports the Windows Media Player plug-in. Application demos will not function properly in browsers that do not support this plug-in. Other requirements:
Why do I get a 'Buffering' message from the player while playing an audio stream?
Your player is probably experiencing network connection problems. Dial-up users may suffer from the fact that many Internet users are probably dialed-in to your ISP using up most or all of the bandwidth. LAN (Local Area Network) users may experience similar problems as a result of the number of users/PCs on their LAN. Try again when the network is less congested.
Why can't I receive any content from the event?
Please make sure that you have the correct browser version and that you browser is configured properly. It is extremely important that you configure your browser correctly.
Can I access the event through a firewall?
If you access the Internet via a proxy server (through a firewall), you will need to make the following changes to your media player configuration. Choose your Windows Media Player (WMP):
WMP 8, 9 or 10 for PC
For Windows Media Player 8, 9 or 10 for the PC:
  1. Click on Tools -> select Options from the drop-down menu. (If you can't see a Menu Bar in your WMP 10: right click on the free space on the player taskbar and choose "Show Menu Bar".)
  2. Click the Network tab; locate the Proxy Settings area.
  3. Double-click on HTTP Browser
  4. Select the Use browser proxy settings option.
  5. Click OK.

Does my browser need to be Java-enabled?
Yes, your browser needs to be Java-enabled. We recommend Microsoft VM for non Win2000 users and Sun Java for Win2000 users.
Download Microsoft VM for Windows here.
Download the Sun Java plug-in here.

How do I configure my browser to be Java-enabled?

  4. Now do one of the following:
    • Click the Default level button. If it's not clickable - it means that your configuration is already correct.

  3. Make sure that the Enable Java, Enable JavaScript and Enable plug-ins are checked
  4. Close the preferences window

Why isn't the RealPlayer plugin detected?
If you are using Firefox and installed the browser after you installed RealPlayer, the plugin may not be in the browser plugins folder. Check your browser's plugin folder for nppl3260.dll and the components folder for nppl3260.xpt. If they are not there, then you will need to install the RealPlayer again or copy this files from the Real player installation folder.
